  • EXPOSITION
  • CONFLICT
  • It's not that I love you less than Mervin. How can a mother love one child less than the others?
  • I feel that way. Second child syndrome I suppose.
  • RISING ACTION
  • NOT THE ARTS!
  • But, Mom...
  • The play starts by introducing the main characters, Mother and Son. They do not have a good relationship and are often arguing. (pg 25-26)
  • CLIMAX
  • I'd rather die than to be at your mercy. You're only doing this so that you won't lose face.
  • THE ONLY REASON WHY I CAN TAKE CARE OF YOU IS BECAUSE OF MY JOB!
  • Son feels that he is not loved by his mother as compared to his siblings and attributes it to middle child syndrome. Mother calls him a disappointment. (pg 27-29)
  • FALLING ACTION
  • I love him... I just want to protect him.
  • Mother and Son disagree about his choice to pursue an education and career in the arts while father supports him wholeheartedly. Mother does not think it is a respectable career. (pg 30-32)
  • RESOLUTION
  • Son ask mother why she hates him so much and explains that it is because of his arts job that allowed him to look after her. Mother says that she would rather die than to be at his mercy. (pg 33-36)
  • Mother reveals that she loves her son and just wants to protect him from judgement from others. Son shares that he loves mother too. (pg 37)
  • I've always loved her...
  • The play ends by revealing that mother has died. It is a tragic ending as both mother and son did not get to tell each other what they had wanted to say : that they loved each other. (pg 38)
  • Done by : Kai Sheng (40) & Maximus (41)
