The Germans coming to America!
Hi there! I'm Emily. I'll explain how the Germans came to America! Including my family.
My mama and my papa left Germany and came to America. They loved it because they had a nice climate to grow their oats. Most of them moved because of no freedom of religion and unemployment.
My mama and other Germans worked on growing oats. They stuck together because it was hard to find other people that spoke Germans. They lived close to the German priests. They had to suffer with bad crops and fights with Native Americans but eventually, they prevailed.
Many of them became bakers, butchers, and carpenters. In 1853, John Jacob Bausch and Henry Lomb started an eye lenses business. They became one of the most successful eyeglass lenses in the world.
Thanks for listening to my family history.
