  • In 1955 many people protested the of segregation of public transit system. This protest lasted for 1 year. One of the most famous protesters was rosa parks
  • March on Washington
  • In 1957 the Governor of Arkansas , Orval Faubus, Refused to let 9 black students into High school even though they were allowed to. As a result president Eisenhower Sent 1000 federal troops to escort the students
  • Selma Alabama March
  • African Americans sit in the white only sections and refused to leave until they get served. They would get harassed and arrested and as soon as they would get arrested another group would take their place. This eventually led to the interstate commerce act desegregating all travel facilities including waiting rooms, rest rooms, and lunch counters
  • Voting Rights Acts of 1965
  • August 28, 1963 more than 250,000 blacks and whites marched into the nation's capitol demanding immediate passage of civil rights bill
  • I have a dream
  • Civil right workers attempted a voting project in Selma Alabama trying to register to vote. They were met with violent resistance
  • Congress Passed the voting rights acts of 1965 eliminating laws that prevented African Americans from voting in state elections
