  • The Colosseum covers an area of 6 acres. This is a huge building even by our modern standards.
  • The Colosseum was made from stone, and concrete. Concrete was a new material that was widely used by the Romans. 
  • The Colosseum was the first theater to use a awning to shade the onlookers in the stands! 
  • It is the largest amphitheater in the world at the time. It is an oval shape and measures 189m long ,156m wide and 50m highas tall as a 12 story building
  • The area under the Colosseum was supported by brick, stone, and concrete. There were also trap doors that opened up to the arena for dramatic effects. This show cases the amazing capability of the roman architecture!
