  • The War of 1812  Comic Strip 
  • NO TRADING WITH FRANCE!
  • America will not be allowed to trade with any European countries!
  • War with Britain!
  • No war with Britain!
  • Great Britain didn't want the Americans to trade with France because the British and French were at war with each other.
  • President Thomas Jefferson passed the Embargo Act in 1807. The Embargo Act says that American ships cannot sail across the Atlantic Ocean and trade with Great Britain, France and any other European countries.
  • People in the South and West wanted to go to war with Britain. However, New England did not want to go to war probably because they did a lot of trading with Britain.
  • The Americans suffered a lot of defeats because they didn't have any training, were poorly equipped, and were outnumbered.
