  • Exposition
  • Conflict
  • Rising Action
  • The village gathers every year at the end of June for the lottery. Every head of house is called to draw paper from a black box at the center of the village.
  • Climax
  • Tessie realizes that Bill is the center of attention. Tessie sees that bills paper has something on it, then she yells, " IT'S NOT FAIR!"
  • Falling Action
  • Then the entire Hutchinson family is called up to the box to draw again since Bill's family was chosen. All six pieces of paper are then put back into the box.
  • Resolution
  • Each member of the Hutchinson family draws a slip of paper from the box... Tessie draws the paper with the black dot on it.
  • Tessis screams that it isn't fair. All of the villagers start to pick up stones for the next "event".
  • A Tessie screams' a rock hits her in the side of the head. Old Man Warner encourages the villagers to hurry up. They all start to stone her.
