  • In the beginning, the highwayman was riding his horse to go see Bess.
  • Repetition- And the highwayman came riding (x2)
  • The highwayman told Bess to wait for him by moonlight, but he did not come.
  • Alliteration- Over the cobbles he clattered and clashed in the dark inn-yard.
  • Tim snitched on the highwayman to King George because he was jealous.
  • Repetition- by moonlight (x3)
  • it describes the highwayman riding his horse.
  • King George men's came to take Bess away and held her as bait to get the highwayman.
  • Repetition- On the stroke of moonlight (x2)
  • It describes the sound that the horse is making when he is riding it.
  • Bess kills herself as a warning to the highwayman and the highwayman gets killed.
  • It suggest that the highwayman will be back by midnight.
  • At the end, they are ghost haunting the place and living their life over and over again.
  • Alliteration- Over the cobbles he clattered and clangs in the dark inn-yard.
  • It suggests what the highwayman is going through when Bess is taken.
  • It suggests that the highwayman is on the way to get Bess.
  • Repetition- On the highway (x2)
  • It suggest that the highwayman and Bess are ghost and they are living their life again as ghosts.
