Storyboard Text

  • Rabies is a viral infection of the brain that is transmitted by animals, it causes inflammation of the brain and spinal cord.
  • That sounds really serious!!!
  • It is, that's why you should be cautious of pets with no owner near them and wild animals. Because animals infected with rabies carry this virus in their saliva and if they bite you, you could get rabies too.
  • How do you know if an animal has rabies?
  •  First off, only mammals can get rabies. When an animal has rabies it is either weak or agitated and vicious. Another identification is if a  nocturnal animal like a bat is out during the day.  Also if a wild animal is not afraid of people
  • How do you know if an animal has rabies?
  • Well, usually 30 to 50 days after the person is bitten, the symptoms begin with a fever, headache, and a general feeling of illness. Most people become restless, confused, and prone to painful muscle spasms in the throat and larynx.
  • What happen if the person doesn't go to the doctor?
  • No problem, viruses are fun to talk about.
  • That's pretty cool! Thanks for the information.
  •  Thus, people who have been bitten may be given rabies immune globulin and a vaccine by injection to prevent rabies. Rabies immune globulin consists of antibodies to the virus, provides protection immediately but only for a short time. While the vaccine is at work.
  • People should clean the wound with soap and water and go see a doctor. From there doctors try to determine the likelihood that rabies was transmitted by asking questions about the animal, because there is no test that can be given to see if rabies was transmitted.
  • What do you do if you are bitten by an animal?
  • This is because rabies affects the area in the brain that controls swallowing, speaking, and breathing. Death is inevitable from blockage of airways, seizures, exhaustion, or widespread paralysis.
