  • We did not like the compromise because it allowed there to be free states and slave states on both sides of the 36 30 line
  • Southern Slave states why did they support it
  • Exactly like the other states they wanted to have all the power in congress and to gain an advantage they had to have more people in congress
  • Southern Slave states beliefs about states rights
  • They feared that the somprimise would tip the balance in congress twords the slave states side
  • Southern Slave states Fears about the compromise 
  • They supported the compromise because it let there be slave states above the 36 30 line and it also allowed the newer states to choose whether they would be a slave state or a free state.
  • They highly supported state power because they wanted to govern themselves and wanted to choose whether they would be a slave state or free state
  • They were afraid that there would be more free states and it would disturb the balance in the government.
