  • I am John Jay, I came to London to solve problems with Britain. The U.S agrees to pay all debts long owed to the British.
  • Washington’s Farewell Speech

  •  Development of Political Parties
  • Federalists- Alexander Hamilton
  • Democratic-  Thomas Jefferson
  • Britain agreed to pay for all the ships that had been seized, withdraw troops and stop giving Natives weapons, but they refused to recognize a U.S right and cease impressment of U.S sailors. The Republicans thought the U.S gave to much away and got little, but the Federalists liked it because they were in peace with Britain.
  •  XYZ Affair
  • Since the French were attacking American ships, Adams sent Charles Pinckney, John Marshall, and Elbridge Gerry. 
  • In Washington's Farewell Address he gave three main pieces of advice to American people. They were to avoid European problems, avoid political factions and that a president should only serve two term.
  •  Alien & Sedition Acts

  • The two main political parties both had different things they liked/ wanted in the U.S. Like federal or state power, if they supported Britain or France, strict of lose Constitution, for or against a National Bank, and  if they were for or against Protective Tariffs.
  •  Midnight Appointments
  • They lose both parts in Congress and the presidency.
  • The three agents X,Y, and Z met the delegates there and they demand a 12,000,000 loan and a 250,000 bribe. Since this happened the Americans were irated and Adams creates the navy, which later leads to the Quasi War.
  • The Alien Act is when the Presidents could report any alien that caused harm. The Sedition Act is when anyone could say anything bad about the President or Congress.
  • Both of these acts were made due to terrorist attacks.
  • In passing the Judiciary Act of 1801, Adams attempted to pack the courts with Federalists Judicial appointments as they could.
