Where did fossil fuels come from and what are they used for?
Well its not that hard, ill help you!
Fossil fuels were formed 300 million years ago, before the dinosaurs and when the earth was covered in swamps and plants. This was during the carboniferous period, There are different fossil fuels, such as Coal, Oil and Gas.
A fossil fuel is an energy source made from dead plants and animals, once the plants and animals died they sunk to the bottom of the swamps and oceans and got covered in clay, minerals and sediment. Temperature, Time, Pressure and Organic matter all affect if Fossil Fuels are produced.
Fossil fuels are used for medicines, plastic, cosmetics and fuel. They are a non-renewable resource because they take millions of years to regenerate, not in a human lifetime. They have a reputation for being bad because they produce green house gases like carbon dioxide and can be expensive.
Oil and natural gases are made from Algae, Zooplankton and pressure, however natural gases need additional lots of heat and pressure.
Coal is made from ferns, plants, trees, pressure and heat. Coal is used to light fire and is an energy producer for electricity when its burnt.
