This is Brianna Davey, she is a professional athlete. She began her sporting career at a local football club ‘Port Cults’. She was 7 years old when she started playing the ‘boys only’ teams.
With the restrictions to this male dominated sport, Brianna then started soccer. Within one year (2010) Brianna had made the Victorian State team (as a goal keeper), in Australia.
When she was 8, Brianna captained the boys team, whilst being the only girl. At the age of 13 in 2009, she was denied access to play in the boys league, as a result football was no longer an option.
Brianna travelled around the world with soccer, however in 2015; she converted back to AFL football, playing at local club level for the St. Kilda Sharks.
When Brianna was 15 years old she was drafted in the Australian Matilda’s Team as one of the Goal Keepers. By the age of 16 she was the number 1 goal keeper, making her the youngest goal keeper for the Australian women’s team.
In 2017, 21 year old Brianna Davey was the first female draft pick for the first ever women’s AFL Carlton team. Brianna is a marquee player and eventually received the Best and Fairest Award for Carlton AFLW team.
Brianna Davey (along with the other AFL Women) is a great female role model and icon for promoting gender equality.
