People need to know!
Martin Luther was a German professor of theology, a priest and most importantly known as the one who started the protestant reformation. He wrote the 95 point theses to the church and he strongly disagreed with the Catholic Church selling indulgences.
Thank you Fredrick the wise
You shall stay hidden here
The Roman Catholic Church started to sell indulgences. They were a piece of paper saying that it would wipe away your sins. Martin Luther believed that only your faith could save you. The church was lying to people and their money was going straight into the popes hands. Martin Luther thought this was wrong.
Martin Luther saw that this was wrong, so he did something about it. He wrote a 95 point theses on October 31 1517 about what was wrong with the Roman Catholic Church, and why it is was corrupt. Martin Luther pinned this to the Wittenberg Church in Germany for all to see.
The Catholic Church labelled Martin Luther a a heretic and forced him into hiding. He was protected by Fredrick the wise.
Whilst in hiding Martin wanted to let more people know what is wrong with Church. He decided that he would rewrite the bible from latin to German, and his followers spread the bible. he became the foundation of the Protestant Reformation.
Martin Luther went on to create his own religion and the Roman Catholic Church began to monitor the money that was coming in and they stop selling indulgences. The reason Martin Luther was so important was because he helped the community know what was wrong.
