owner trained assistance dogs short film
This storyboard does not have a description.
4 years waiting list for an assistance dog.Decided to get a dog and train him myself as an owner trained assistance dog.
We do task work at home such as opening cupboards, fetching items I drop and getting help if I fall.
He also helps with day to day tasks that I struggle with such as undressing. He knows how to take my splints and socks off.
My goal is for him to do public access with more training.Sometimes people are less educated on owner trained assistance dogs so they refuse us access.
We go to training classes where he learns tasks like anxiety alerts, behaviour interruptions and deep pressure therapy. We also do obedience and behaviour training.
My mental health has improved since having him. He helps me go out the house and to enjoy and access things again. He's my pawtner in crime!
