The Government is only paying us with these little paper certificates!
What about the farm!? We money and we need it now!
NO! You can't do this do us!
Sorry...lol just did!
August 29th in North Hampton
Come on guys your slow!
We can't believe they are doing this to us! Where do they get their food? US!
The soldiers were paid with paper certificates issued by the new government. The results of this was that the soldiers would sell them for a discounted price. They needed money right then and there. No I don't agree with the government for giving them the paper certificates. If I am working for you AND possibly lose my life, I want cold, hard cash.
September 25th - 28th
Massachusetts was in a big debt. So they raised taxes and required that they pay in hard money. This caused some farmers to loose their farm because they couldn't pay and they were in debt. The farmers were shocked because they foreclosed on them and repossessed their farms.
Shays' New Plan
What happened on August 29 is that a group of armed farmers farmers closed the Hampshire County Court of Cammon Pleas, bringing everything to a hult.
The editor of the Massachusetts Centinel's Observation
On September 25th-28th was that Shay had his men occupy the Springfield courthouse. He had 600 men with him. It resulted in the Government leaders watching their worst fear.
How many men you say?
600 I believe.
Shay had a new plan after he figured out he was dealing with a organized militia. It was to surprise attack and overrun the new federal arsenal at Springfield. He needed a new plan because the Government sent out troops to protect the arsenal. It resulted in killing 3 of the farmers and injuring 20.
Sorry it needed to be secret.
Could you not get a better place then this?
Guys back on subject!
The Massachusetts Centinel observed that the "late insurrections in the commonwealth...must be considered as the cause of bringing the federal government into exsistence." It means that if Shay didn't rebel then we would of had that same government for a few more years. I do agree because the Articles of Confederation was so spread out it was a terrible government.
