  • Montgomery Bus Boycott Begins
  • Civil Rights Act of 1957
  • Let''s create a Civil Rights division in the U.S. Justice Department.
  • When schools were integrated.
  • Freedom Rides/ Lunch Counter Sit-ins
  • Rosa Parks refuses to give up her seat and gets arrested. Local African- American leaders began a boycott of the city's public buses. Buses were then intergrated.
  • March On Washington
  • Increased African-American voting in the South. The act created the Civil Rights Commission and established a Civil Rights Division in the U.S. Justice Department.
  • Selma Alabama March
  • Interracial groups rode buses in Freedom Rides in the South. As a result of the protest, downtown stores finally decided to desegregate lunch counters. 
  • Civil Rights leaders organized a march on Washington to pressure Congress to pass the new Civil Rights bill. 
  • A march demanding the vote for African-Americans.
