  • The Duke of Athens, Theseus, is going to marry Hippolyta, Queen of the Amazons. During the festivities two young men of Athens, Lysander and Demetrius, meet the beautiful Hermia and fall in love with her. Hermia defies her father's wishes that she marry Demetrius because she is in love with Lysander.
  • Climax
  • The strong willed and independent Hermia refuses to obey her father and runs away with Lysander to marry. Before they leave Hermia tells her friend, Helena their plan. The two lovers flee through woods, watched by Oberon, king of the fairies.
  • Falling Action
  • A mischievous fairy called Puck tries to solve the love triangle by making Demetrius fall in love with Helena. He mistakes Lysander for Demetrius and throws love juice in his eyes making him fall in love with Helena. Realising his mistake he also makes Demetrius fall in love with Helena. Hermia is devastated.
  • Denouement
  • Lysander and Demetrius fight over Helena. Hermia is distraught and saddened by all of this. Although Puck claims his mistake was unintentional he seems to enjoy the conflict and mayhem. As the two men sleep Puck removes the spell and rights his wrong doing.
  • When walking in the woods, the Duke comes across the lovers as they sleep. They wake and tell him their story. The Duke is a little confused but agrees that they can be married during his wedding ceremony.
  • Lysander and Hermia are married alongside Demetrius and Helena. They stay in Athens and the Play Bottom's Dream is performed to them. Puck remembers his experience like it was a midsummer night's dream as he watches the performance.
