There once was a famous bakery in New York with an unforgettable cake. The baker felt he could trust anyone in his family with this prized recipe, but he was sadly mistaken.
One day there was a local bake-off where anyone could participate. The baker, of course, signed up for a chance to compete in nationals, but out of the blue, his son expressed an interest to compete by himself.
"The Cherry, The Cherry!"
When the two bakers entered their recipes for the judging the father noticed a small similarity with their dishes and realized his son entered the baker's famous cake recipe. The Father decided to wait for the perfect time to admonish his son. The plan was to let his son win the local competition with him so when they both go to nationals he would leave his son a fake recipe, because this would publicly shame his son so he would never lie or steal again.
Never come back!
The day of nationals was a bittersweet afternoon filled with resentment and sadness. The father watched as his lying son served the tainted cake to the judges with a mix of anger and bliss. The judges immediately spit out the cake with a look of horror on their faces.
One of the judges screamed "The Cherry, The Cherry!" The son realized the cherry was spoiled this, of course, was something that only the creator of the recipe could prevent. As the cherry's color left so did the father's trust for the son.
Later, as the father and son left the son found one slice of cake with a spoiled cherry on top and realized what happened. That day he was fired from the family business.
