Betrayal in Roman History, Tarpeia Avery Gray 2A
Tarpeia was the daughter of the commander of the Roman Capitol during the Sabine War.
The Sabines convinced Tarpeia that if she helped them they would give her what was on their left arms.
Tarpeia assumed the Sabines were going to give her their gold bracelets.
However, when Tarpeia let the Sabines into the city, they crushed her with the shields they carried on their left arms.
There is a famous site known as Tarpeian Rock where traitors were thrown to their deaths, inspired by the story of Tarpeia.
