  • Salomé Ureña was born on October 21st, 1850.  She was born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.  
  • Salomé Ureña's father introduced her to French and Spanish literature, and her mother introduced her to education and feminism.  Both of these greatly helped to influence Salomé Ureña's writing.
  • Salomé Ureña's poetry had many themes such as nature, patriotism, and feminism.  She was a very big advocate for feminism, and used poetry to help convey her messages.  
  • When she was 30, Salomé Ureña got married to a man named Fransisco Henriquez y Carvajal.  He greatly impacted her, as he made Salomé Ureña have the chance to get a higher education.
  • Overall, Salomé Ureña's poetry influenced many people, specifically women.  She encouraged women to get an education.  She even established the first higher education school for women.  In total, she greatly impacted the world.
