Hamilton's Financial Plan
We are announcing that the Federal Government will pay back all state debt.
George Washington was inaugurated on April 30, 1789 in New York. One of Washington's first jobs as president was to put a working government into place. In order to do this, he had to create himself a cabinet which consisted of many job positions.
After the American Revolution, the Federal Government owed 52 million dollars in debt, but were not making enough to pay it back. Many people who had bought bonds sold them for less then they were worth, so it made it harder to pay back all the debt.

In order to come up with a plan to face the financial crisis that the U.S was facing, Washington called up Alexander Hamilton to devise a plan. Hamilton's plan consisted of three pasts: the Federal government would pay all state debt, create a national bank, and set high tariffs on imported goods.
Congress put a tax on all whiskey as a way to earn extra money. This angered many farmers and they began to rebel and protest, and they ended up starting an uprising. In order to stop the rebellion, Washington sent the militia which showed the colonies that armed rebellion was not acceptable in a Republic.

Ten years after the American Revolution, the British were still stationed at American forts, and they were supplying Native Americans with guns and ammunition. The U.S attempted to buy land from the Native Americans, but in the end they ended up having to declare war when they refused. This became known as the Battle of Fallen Timbers.
The French Revolution started on April 1789 because on the Nation's Financial Crisis, Economic Depression, and Enlightenment. At first many Americans supported the Revolution, but later they started to disagree with it because it became much more violent. By 1793 France had declared war with Britain, and the United States was in the middle of it.
