Hello, I'm Steve, To be an effective corrections officer you need to have certain qualities and personality traits.
You need to be detail oriented, objective, unbiased, calm under stress and able to handle confrontation.
You need good communication skills and the ability to act in a highly professional manner in a tightly controlled environment.
Three duties that I have at the prison are supervising inmate behavior and activities, monitoring inmate work assignments & inspecting the prison for signs of inmate tampering.
Some of the routines are dangerous like having to search inmate quarters for contraband like weapons or drugs.
In the end its fulfilling because I’m helping the community by keeping people safe. I also, love the work I do because my family has worked in corrections for generations. If I could change anything it would just be to advance up the chain of command.
