Present day, 1991, Teeny, Chrissy, Roberta and Samantha have reunited to catch up and reminisce about the past
Flashback to 1970 when the girls had two goals: saving money to buy a tree house and avoiding the Wormer brothers
One night, the girls sneak out to the cemetery to perform a seance. They are convinced they have resurrected the spirit of 'Dear Johnny' when lightning cracks his tombstone. In fright, they run away.
After retaliating on the Wormer brothers for a previous prank while riding around, the girls visit the library to look for information on 'Dear Johnny'. Roberta ends up discovering the violent manner of her mother's death.
After visiting a local psychic who determines that 'Dear Johnny' was murdered, Samantha returns home and meets her mum's new boyfriend, Bud Kent. She storms and meets with Teeny with whom she confides about her parents' divorce. On their way home, trouble occurs when Samantha climbs into a sewer to retrieve her friendship bracelet during a storm. 'Crazy Pete' ends up saving her when she is unable to get back out. This incident changes their opinion about him. They later visit 'Dear Johnny's' grave once more to complete the seance, Samantha spots her rescuer and tells the girls to continue home without her. Her and 'Crazy Pete', who is revealed to be Johnny's father, tells her of his wife and son's brutal murder. After a while, Pete givers her advice that she wouldn't understand until she was an adult.
Fast forward to 1991, Chrissy gives birth and it is Roberta who delivers the child. The four women are later seen hanging out in the tree house they built 21 years prior. Roberta reveals 'Crazy Pete' had died a year before, hence why Teeny's letters were never returned. They discuss how happy their life is and make another pact to visit again.
