Storyboard Text

  • In 1932, James Chadwick discovered the neutron
  • I did so by bombarding beryllium with alpha particles
  • These people led to the discovery of the particles present in an atom.
  • People like Niels Bohr and Erwin Schrodinger improved upon the accepted atomic model at that time.
  • The electrons revolve around the nucleus like a planet around the sun.
  • Niels Bohr - 1913
  • Erwin Schrödinger - 1926
  • In an orbital, it is not the electron per se but a probability of it being there.
  • The periodic table is a list of all elements known to man so far.
  • What makes two elements different from each other is the presence of more or less protons
  • Dmitri Mendeleev -1868
  • While I arranged elements according to atomic number.
  • I arranged elements according to atomic mass
  • Henry Moseley - 1913
  • Atoms contain electrons, protons and neutrons. The mass number of an atom is equivalent to its number of protons plus neutrons. The number of protons is equal to the number of electrons if the charge is neutral. If it isn't neutral, then the atom is an ion - a cation or anion. The difference between the atomic mass and mass number is that the atomic mass is the average mass of all forms of that element while the mass number is the number of protons and neutrons in an atom.
  • Basically...
