Storyboard Text

  • Everyday, the early migrants woke up at 5 in the morning to work.
  • I hope my salary which I sent back to my family is enough for them to eat.
  • Yawn! Another day of work!
  • Everyone pay their rent to me tomorrow.
  • Oh no! Pay rent tomorrow? I already sent almost all of my money back home! I hope I earn enough today to pay rent..
  • Even under the hot sun, rickshaw pullers continued to work.
  • Wait!
  • The rickshaw pullers took any customers, even rude ones, to make money for themselves and their families.
  • Where do you want to go?
  • Queenstown
  • The 3 cents they earned either was used to pay monthly rent or sent home to their families.
  • Here is 3 cents for carrying me for half a mile! Bye!
  • Thanks! Bye!
  • This continues until…...
  • And every month they pay rent and write letters to their loved ones back home…. with only their new found buddies to comfort them when they are both physically and emotionally wounded.
  • Here is this month's rent payment.
  • Great, now you can go and queue up to write your letter.
  • Dear Papa and Mama, how are Ah Long and Ah Jie? I hope…...
  • Sniff,sniff
  • They are probably fine, don't worry!
