  • Ball is circling around the rim
  • You mean the uniform circular motion of the ball circling the rim before going in?
  • Nice shot dude!  How'd you do that?!
  • Yeah, that!
  • Well, the uniform circular motion of the ball rolling around the rim means that it's going in a constant circular movement.
  • OK...and?
  • Basically, you need to have enough centripetal acceleration so that the ball will go into the hoop.
  • Go on....
  • The centripetal force causes the ball to go toward the center of the hoop and go in.
  • Hmmm...interesting
  • And since the basketball has a smaller circumference than the hole in the hoop, it rolls around and then falls through...usually!  LOL!
  • Now I get it!  Thanks for explaining it to me Mr. Wizard!  LOL!!
