  • The Beginning
  • Living away from England
  • The Starving Time
  • In 1607, Jamestown was founded by English gentlemen and craftsmen as a way to make more money to go back to England with for their families. (Live from Jamestown, paragraph 1)
  • Period of Peace
  • The colonists originally had a hard time in colonies because none of them knew how to grow crops which was crucial for their survival and the Native Americans that lived nearby were not willing to help the colonists out.
  • The Peace Being Broken
  • In the fall of 1609, after being injured in a gunpowder explosion John Smith went back to England and without the help of Smith and Pocahontas, the Natives refused to trade with the colonists and with the colonist soon going through the worst winters ever had to eat dogs, rats and even each other. (TCI: Jamestown: The First English Colony)
  • The End
  • After John Smith left to go back to England on a day in April 1614 Pocahontas and John Rolfe got married, proceeding to the period of peace between the Natives and the colonists. Thanks to Rolfe who introduced a new strain of tobacco from the West Indies made Jamestown's economy much better.(History.com: Jamestown Colony)
  • When Pocahontas was taken to England as a way the colonists would get back at the Natives, but Pocahontas later died in England. When the Natives heard the news they became more and more angry because the colonists did not care about letting them suffer for disease and their need for so much land. In March 1622 the Natives made attacks on the colonists' settlements' and killed 350 to 400 colonists
  • The Natives continued to rebel which led to another great rebellion by the Powhatan people in 1644. The colony continued to grow and the Natives were forced to ceded some of their land and they had to pay annual fees. In 1698 the Jamestown Central Statehouse burned down and Willamsburg replaced Jamestown as it's capital.
