  • New technology has made it possible to travel and transport goods quickly!

  • I Andrew Jackson was elected as president in 1828.
  • Exploration / New Discoveries
  • We have discovered a lot of new land!
  • In the 19th century new discoveries about technology were found including railroads, steamboats, morse code, sewing machines, steel plows and elevators to improve Americans lives. 
  • Connection to Literature
  • I love British literature!
  • During the era of the common man many events took place to shape America into the country it is now. Some of these events included the Monroe Doctrine (1823), the Trail of Tears (1838), Womens Rights (1848) and the Civil War (1861).
  • Visions, Thoughts, & Themes
  • Everyone began to envision Americas future in many different ways.
  • The U.S. extended westward  resulting in the Louisiana Purchase (1803), the Mexican Cession of 1848, and the addition of Texas and Oregon territories.
  • Language
  • The United States used pictures and writing to record but Americans still read British literature. Some of the creators included Lewis and Clark, Irving and Cooper, Allen Poe and Whitman. 
  • The Louisiana purchase inspired social visions. The romantic vision allowed people to share their feelings and emotions through writing. America grows and evolves based on social visions.
  • The U.S. created a new dialect, grammar and syntax regional differences. The American language is less formal using the same contractions and phrases we use today. 
  • Language was developed throughout the 1800's.
