Terry Fox was a young man who loved sports and being active. He went to the doctor because of knee pain and found out that he had cancer. His leg had to be amputated, potentially ruining any future sports.

Terry Fox was upset about the lack of donations to cancer research, so he decided to raise awareness and money by running across Canada. His family was upset at first but eventually came around. He wanted to raise $1 for every Canadian, so eventually, he wanted to have raised $34 million.
Terry started off his marathon and in almost every town and city he ran through, he found people standing in the streets cheering him on. He raised a lot of awareness for cancer and people began donating money. He was able to run for 143 days straight.
He was forced to stop when became sick. Terry went to the hospital and found out that he had developed cancer again and this time it had already spread to his lungs.
On June 28, 1981, Terry Fox died. He was never able to complete his run across Canada but people still saw him as a hero because he raised so much money for cancer and his foundation continues to raise money.
Terry Fox is still known to most young kids since a lot of schools and places all over the world have a Terry Fox Run every year to raise awareness and money.
