Storyboard Text

  • Continental Army Trapped
  • Then go get some boats!
  • We need to cross the river now, before the British catch up to us.
  • But, sir, we don't have any boats.
  • Washington's Army Takes Boats
  • The Continental Army needs your boats.
  • Washington Decides to Attack Hessians
  • Washington and his army are running from the British. They are tired, hungry, and low on supplies. Washington wants to cross the river to put distance between him and the British. Since he has no boats, Washington sends men to get boats.
  • The Army Crosses at Midnight
  • The Continental Army, on Washington's orders, are taking boats from a colonist who lived near by. The colonist is not very happy with the Army taking his boats. He yells insults at them as they leave.
  • Continental Army Attacks Hessians
  • Washington is having a meeting with his Generals. During this meeting, Washington comes up with a plan to attack the Hessians the day after Christmas, when the Hessians will be tired after partying. 
  • Hessians Surrender
  • We surrender!
  • Washington's Army starts to cross the river the night of Christmas so that they will arrive the day after Christmas. The water is freezing and some of Washington's Generals were worried about ice.
  • At eight in the morning, the day after Christmas, Washington's Army attacked the Hessians. The Hessians weren't expecting an attack, so the Hessians didn't have there weapons on them. 
  • The Hessians surrendered to Washington's army after the Hessians General was shot. This is the American's first victory in the war.
