Storyboard Text

  • Oh, Ciara's a sight for sore eyes! She will make for a brilliant housewife one day!
  • May 1840, Ireland
  • Men! I'll show them! I am a strong, independent woman! Maybe it's time for me to find my place... somewhere far from this rural setting...
  • March 1841, Atlantic Ocean
  • This trip is horrible! I cannot wait to meet the people! After all, the urban work in America is attracting many immigrants like me, I hope everyone is welcoming!
  • Oh... they don't look so pleased... Their clothes are very different and none look quite like me.... I didn't mean to cause any harm. I thought that the urbanization would decrease prejudice, not make it worse...
  • September 1841, New York
  • October 1841, Rhode Island
  • If I cover my hair and dress like them, I may be accepted. But this house! It's horrible! No one would allow me to move into anywhere else! I hope my first day goes well.
  • July 1848, Carson's Fine China factory
  • Over the next few years, the North's industrialization drew many people to America. Eventually, my pay increased enough for me to be comfortable and I was accepted in society! I'm really talented at painting, too!
  • December 1851, a husband & twins later...
  • I am very grateful for the urbanization in America. The economy is boosted, I love my job as a working mother, and I have met many types of people. I regret nothing.
