  • Act 1 Scene 1
  • What are you, that you walk out so late at night, looking like the dead king of Denmark when he dressed for battle? By God, I order you to speak.
  • Act 1 Scene 2
  • My lord, I think I saw him yesternight.
  • My lord, the king your father.
  • The king my father?!
  • Saw who?
  • Act 1 Scene 3
  • Be wary, then. Best safety lies in fear. Youth to itself rebels, though none else near.
  • I shall the effect of this good lesson keep As watchman to my heart. 
  • It beckons you to go away with it, As if it some impartment did desire To you alone.
  • Two watchmen outside of the castle Marcellus and Barnardo claim that they have witnessed the ghost of the former king of Denmark, Old Hamlet. Heratio is informed of this as his scholarly background may provide more insight as to why this aspiration has appeared.  the ghost however, disappears without saying a word.
  • Act 1 Scene 4
  • Look, with what courteous action It waves you to a more removèd ground But do not go with it.
  • It will not speak. Then I will follow it.
  • the morning after, Horatio goes to Hamlet along with Marcellus and Barnardo. when they arrive, they inform Hamlet of what they witnessed the night before. Hamlet in shock requests that he keeps watch of the ghost alongside them the coming night so he himself can get a chance to speak to the apparition.
  • Act 1 Scene 5
  • So, uncle, there you are. Now to my word.
  • Revenge his foul and most unnatural murder.
  • In the meanwhile, Opheillia who is Hamlet's lover is being advised by her brother Laertes as to why she should not affiliate herself with Hamlet. Laertes thinks that Hamlet will just use her for his own purposes. Opheillia agrees to hold his brothers advice in high regard. 
  • Night has fallen as Hamlet, Horatio, and Marcellus await for the ghosts appearance. The ghost appears once again and advises Hamlet to follow his direction. despite the objection of the others Hamlet decides to abide to what the ghost says. 
  • GHOST beckons HAMLET
  • when the ghost and Hamlet arrive at their destination, the ghost tells Hamlet that he was murdered by the current king of Denmark, Claudius who is Old Hamlets brother and Hamlet's uncle. The ghost demands Hamlet to enact revenge on Claudius. Hamlet instilled with rage knowing that Claudius murdered Old Hamlet devises a plan of acting "mad" in order to successfully fulfill his revenge.
