I made up my mind to take the life of the old man.
Every night at midnight, I opened his door.
I removed the bed and looked at the body. Yes, he was stone dead.
The rising action is a related series of incidents that build toward the point of the greatest interest. Rising action relates to the story because the man is planning to take the life of the old man. "I was never kinder to the old man during the week before i killed him. "
the climax is the point at which the conflict is resolved and the story outcome is clear. The climax relates to the story because the conflict for the young man is the old man's eye. The young man resolves the conflict by taking the life of the old man. "then i smiled. the deed was almost done. but for many minutes the heart beat on with a muffled sound. this though, didn't bother me. it would not be heard through the wall."
The falling action occurs after the climax has been reached and the conflict has been resolved. The falling action relates to the story because the old man is dead and the young man has to hide the body. "if you still think i'm crazy, you will think no more when i tell you the wise way in which i hid the body."
