Storyboard Text

  • The Battle of Iwo Jima was between U.S. Marines and the Japanese Army. The battle happened on the island of Iwo Jima, of the coast of Japan.
  • The U.S. came on the island on February 19, 1945. When the U.S. marines made on the island they were faced with a hazardous beach, that had loose sand and volcanic ash.
  • Japanese soldiers are lying in wait to ambush U.S. marines, on the island of Iwo Jima.
  • The U.S. marines finally made it inland, but were met by the ambush. After getting bombarded with gun fire, they made it to an airfield and proceeded to capture it.
  • On March 25, 1945 the Japanese made their final assault on the Marines, and the battle was over on the 26th.
  • The U.S. had won the Battle of Iwo Jima. The number of deaths is around 18,500 for the Japanese soldiers, and around 6,800 for the U.S. Marines.
