Storyboard Text

  • A carpenter named John lives with his wife Alisoun in the university town of Oxford. To make a bit of extra money, he boards a young scholar named Nicholas
  • Climax
  • Exposition
  • Absalon is repeatedly rejected by Alisoun. Nicholas devises a plan to get John to give Nicholas and Alisoun with some alone time.
  • "'Now dearest lady, if thy pleasure be In thoughts of love, think tenderly of me!'"
  • Rising Action
  • "Rain is to fall in torrents, such a scud It will be twice as bad as Noah's Flood."
  • John leaves Alisoun and Nicholas alone. Absalon comes and asks for a kiss. Instead of getting a kiss, he is presented with Alisoun's butt.
  • "'So kiss me, if you can't do more than that, For Jesus' love and for the love of me!'"
  • Resolution
  • Absalon, ashamed and angry, asks for a second kiss. When Nicholas offers Absalon his behind, Absalon stabs Nicholas with a hot poker.
  • "'Help! Water! Water! Help! For Heaven's love!'"
  • John, hearing the cries of Nicholas and Alisoun, cuts the rope and comes crashing down the the barrel and wakes up the town.
  • Falling Action
  • "'Heaven help us! Here comes Nowel's Flood!'"
  • The bemused townspeople gather around John and agree with Alisoun and Nicholas's assessment that he is crazy.
