Storyboard Text

  • Hey Nia! I was wondering if you could help me on my science homework it's about forces. I'm having trouble understanding the concept.
  • Yeah, of course! So let's start off with the basics. A force is a push or pull exerted on an object.  When measuring force you use SI units called newtons.
  • Thanks! Do you know anything about balanced and unbalanced forces?
  • Balanced Forces are forces on an object that produce a net force of ON. A balanced force will not cause a change in motion. An example of a balanced force is a baseball being caught by someone.
  • Oh! Now I understand!
  • Next, an unbalanced force is when the net force on an object is not 0N.  Unbalanced forces cause a change in velocity. Which can be change in speed, direction, or both.  Unbalanced forces are needed to cause static objects to start moving.  An example is when the ball is being thrown.
  • Thank you so much Nia for helping me learn about forces!
  • No problem! I'm always here to help!
