  • Rising Action 
  • Climax
  • In the town it was June 27th and it was clear and sunny. Everybody in the town was getting ready for the lottery.  The children played in town and were playing with rocks and the parents rounded them up. 
  • Falling Action
  • Everybody in the town is putting their slips into the black old box and everybody waited to see who it was. People start looking over towards Bill because all the slips were blank, but his had something on it.
  • Resolution 
  •  Everybody in the Hutchinson family has to put a slip of paper back in the box and it was 5 people total. This was to find out who the winner in the family was. Everybody in the family grab a piece of paper and they were all the same besides Tessie she had a black dot on hers. 
  • Literary Term - Foreshadowing 
  • Tessie starts screaming at the top of her longs it is not fair and that it is not right see has to do it. Everybody starts to pick up some of the rocks from the piles to get it over with soon. 
  • Tessie continues to screams that it is unfair. Somebody threw a rock at her head and oldest man Warner tells the villagers to get it over with. Then the villagers end her life with stones.
  • ¨Bobby Martin had already stuffed his pockets full of stones...¨ This foreshadows the ending of the story how Tessie got stoned to death.
