Storyboard Text

  • They left me! I wouldn't have complained! I wouldn't have slowed them down! What will I do now?
  • We are not going to share our food! You'll just slow us down! You might even start crying again!
  • Marial and Uncle might not be right here next to me, but I still feel strong. There is no one left to help me, and  they think I am weak and useless. They are wrong, and I will prove it.
  • You there can go scavenge for food. You should go stand guard while he is sleeping.
  • This is when Salva's group abandoned him while he was sleeping. They thought that since he was a kid he would slow them down and complain all the time. This made Salva cry, which shows that he is dependent and worried.
  • This is when Salva's Uncle died and his group buried him. After he passed away, the group started treating Salva poorly. He had to beg for food. Even though Marial and his uncle were not right next to him, he still felt strong. He knew no one was there to help him. Everyone thought he was weak and useless. He was going to prove them wrong. He began to feel independent.
  • This is when Salva had been forced to swim across a river filled with crocodiles. The fifteen hundred boys that made it safely started walking to Kenya. Salva became their leader. He had to make sure everyone was doing their job and staying motivated. Salva had to keep them all safe. This shows that Salva grew to be a leader.
