  • In 1557, the first man made satellite named Sputnik, was launched by the Soviet Union. Sputnik was launched during the Cold War, making the Americas worried at the thought that the Soviet Union would be able to launch a missile at North America if they are able to launch a satellite.
  • EMAILS
  • In the late 1960's the first practicable prototype of the Internet was created by the ARPANET ( Advanced Research Projects Agency Network). ARPANET used packet switching, a creation created in the early 1960's, to allow multiple computers to communicate on one network.
  • WORLD WIDE WEB
  • hmm world wide web?!
  • Scientists Robert Kahn and Vinton Cerf developed TC/IP ( Transition Control Protocol and Internet Protocol) in the 1970s. This was a communication model that showed how data could be transmitted between multiple networks.
  • SOCIAL MEDIA
  • In 1971, email was created by Ray Tomlinson. This was the first system where you were able to send mail between different users across the APARNET. It was used greatly all over the world.
  • In the 1990's, the World Wide Web was created by computer scientist, Tim Berners- Lee. The World Wide Web is the most used method of accessing information online through websites and hyperlinks.
  • In 1997 the first social media platform, Six Degrees, was created and used by many. In the 21st century new social media platforms were created, such as Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat, Musical.ly, Twitter etc. They became very popular and are now used all over the world to communicate etc.
