  • Hamartia: Antigone's flaw is her stubborn loyalty to the gods and family, and disloyalty towards her uncle, the king.
  • Your loyalty to this kingdom and your family is truly incredible Princess Antigone
  • Why thank you good sir.
  • Hubris: Antigone has extreme pride in what she believes and tells her sister, Ismene, her plan to go against her uncle, who has decreed for her brother (Polynices) not to be buried because he is a "traitor."
  • Ismene, I am going to bury Polynices
  • Antigone
  • Don't Antigone! How could you disobey Creon like that?
  • May you rest in peace my dearest brother.
  • Peripeteia: Antigone reverses her fortune when she buries her brother, despite her uncle's decree not to.
  • Banish her for the crimes she has committed.
  • Sorry for not defying the gods.
  • Anagnorisis: Antigone discovers that she is willing to accept her punishment for being loyal to the gods and to her brother.
  • Nemesis: Antigone commits suicide shortly after being banished into a cave by her uncle.
  • Catharsis: The audience is left with pity shortly after Creon comes to free Antigone and he discovers what has happened and Haemon, Creon's son and Antigone's fiancé, kills himself alongside Antigone. Creon later discovers that Eurydice, his wife, also killed herself after discovering her son is dead.
