- [It only makes sense that you fight in this war because you caused it.] (Logos)
- [I must continue to fight because if I do not then you will be taken into slavery.] (Logos)
- Hektor is upset with Paris for not fighting in the war that he caused. Paris understands why he feels this way and prepares to fight because Helen wants him to.
- Zeus I pray that my son be preeminent among the Trojans.
- Hektor of the shining helm goes to the house of Athene to visit his wife, Andromache, and son, Astyanax. She has gone to the house to propitiate (vocabulary) the goddess.
- Andromache of the white arms (stock epithet) wants Hektor to stay home from war, but Hektor knows that it is in his family's best interest to continue to fight.
- Glorious Hektor tries to pick up his son, but Astynax is frightened of his father's helmet. The divide between being a father and a warrior is present.
- Hektor prays to Zeus that his son will grow up to become a better man and warrior than he is (respect and obedience to gods).
- Odysseus and Aias are sent to persuade Achilleus to rejoin the war. Achilleus refuses despite the honor offered to him.
