Mme Loisel thought she was born to be a high class, but her husband is a middle class and she obtained that title herself to her displessure.
Madame Loisel wants a better life, so she stays home all day while her maid cleans for her daydreaming about her fantasy life while her husband is at work.
Her husband came home one evening with a ball invitation for his wife but she was not satisfied because she had nothing to wear. So he solved that situation by buying her a 400 dollar dress, then borrowing a diamond necklace from her friend.
When she arrived to the ball she was the center of attention, a beauty! All of the guys attention was on her, while her husband slept, she felt glorious, it was everything she had ever strived for. The night came to a end at 4am, Mme and her husband took a cab home quickly realizing her necklace is missing, the expensive necklace her friend loaned her. They were frantic, her husband went back tracing their steps while she sat at home worrying. Monsieur asked many jewelry stores, he put out awards if anyone found it, after hours of searching he arrived home with no luck.
They desided to find a way to buy a new necklace they predicted it would be around $36,000 so Mme Loisels husband got lots of loans, and had two jobs, Mme Loisel stayed at home and to her displeasure she had to fire her maid and clean her own house. They finally got enough money and bought the 36,000 dollar necklace returning it to her friend who didn't notice it was different at all.
They were in debt for the next 10 years, Mme Loisel had grown old, she was tired, her hair hadn't been cut. She would sit around missing being at that dance, being the center of attention, she missed being beautiful. She was outside and saw her old friend that had let her borrow the necklace, she looked the same, she was gorgeous. Mme desided to go up to her telling her the truth and shortly learned the necklace was only 500 dollars and wasn't a real diamond.
