External conflict (man vs. self) Ned (Tess's imaginary friend that she created unknowingly after her brothers death as a coping mechanism) was constantly putting Tess down and saying that she was fat and that she needed to lose weight and made her anorexic and throw up any food she ate. Tess and Ned had lots of fights but she always gave into him believing that what he said was true.
"If you were skinny, everyone would love you. Your parents won't want you unless you are skinny"
External Conflict (man vs. environment/nature) - On the day of Brodie's birthday, once they got got off the bus Brodie showed Tess the certificate he received. The wind took the certificate and blew it onto the busy highway. Brodie ran after it without looking. He bent down to pick it up off the road and a car came and hit him.
Internal Conflict ( man vs. self) - After the accident and Brodie's death, Tess struggled a lot with depression and anxiety. She blamed herself a lot for Brodie's death and got angry at her mother because even 3 years after his death she still wasn't over it and would have some days were she wouldn't even get out of bed because of it.
Mum is crazy, she has lost it, she just can't get over the fact that he's gone and he won't come back.
It's all my fault Brodie died. I should of stopped him from running out onto the road.
