Painting the flowers was a typical day for Persephone, Daughter of Demeter. She'd noticed a bush she didn't like , so she pulled it out. It left a hole that grew and grew, until a horse with a rider dressed in black captured her.
Hades, Demeter's brother, had taken Persephone to the Underworld. He'd tried to woo her into courtship with him. He'd tried to give her precious gifts; gold and diamonds, a special garden as well as a helper; someone who'd been killed by her mother's actions, as well as making her delicious meals. Persephone refused all gifts and foods. Though she enjoyed the garden.
Demeter, in her grief, went to Zeus for help. She'd learned from birds that Hades had kidnapped her daughter. Hades had foreseen Demeter's actions and had bribed Zues' with a blue lightning bolt. She no longer let plants grow, which made humans beg and disturb Zues, until he decided to help Demeter and Hades.
