  • I can do what i want because God said so.
  • The king speaks to god, we follow his path.
  • The king lies! Parliament wants fairness!
  • Parliament wants to tell me what to do... maybe i should become a dictator.
  • After Queen elizabeth, James I takes reign. He believes in Divine right of kings. This means that he is in contact with God and can talk with him, so he answers only to him. This creates tension with the Parliament.
  • uhh...okay.
  • The England civil war starts in 1642 with the Cavaliers(king supporters) fighting the Roundheads under leadership of Oliver Cromwell.
  • I don't want England anymore, you can have it!
  • ...
  • After Cromwell is victorious, he beheads King Charles and purged parliament of his supporters. He the proceeds to abolish monarchy and set up commonwealth. England eventually becomes a military dictatorship until Cromwell passes in 1658
  • The Bill of Rights
  • Charles II is crowned and never threatened Parliaments authority. He also established Habeas Corpus. After Charles II, James II reigned unfairly, so a group of nobles encourage William of Orange to take over.
  • Please take our country, we hate our leader. He is unfair.
  • William and Mary peacefully invaded England from James II. Mary is James II daughter, and had to be convinced to back-stab her father.
  • William helped Parliament write the Bill of Rights and it was published in 1689, the same year William and Mary took England. The monarchy and Parliament demolished the belief of Divine Rights of Kings.
