King Heiron II of Syracuse in Sicily gave a goldsmith a bar of gold to make it into a crown but once the crown was made he thought that he had been cheated so he gave Archimedes his crown to see if it was pure gold.
The first thing Archimedes did was to measure the density of the Crown which the King thought was not pure gold.
Then Archimedes measured the density of a pure gold bar because if the crown was pure gold then it would have the same density as the pure gold bar he measured.
Then Archimedes compared the crown and the pure gold bar and found out that the King was right and that the crown was not made out of the pure gold bar that he gave the locksmith
Archimedes went back to the castle to tell the king about what he had found out and the king was fuming !!!!!!!
The King ordered the knights to arrest the goldsmith and to throw him in the dungeons for the rest of his life.
