The Finch family lives in Maycomb, Alabama. throughout the 1930s, was a time were most of the white men and women were racist. Atticus who is the father, is a prominent lawyer. He has two children Scout and Jem.
A black man of the name Tom Robinson was accused by Mayella Ewell for rape. One day Mr. Robinson was walking down the street and Mayella asked him to help fix her door. He wasn't able to say no to her becasue she was a white women.
Atticus's children Scout and Jem sneaked into the court to see the trail. Both Scout and Jem became the center of attention becasue their father was defending a black man. they were also sitting on the balcony with all the black men and women.
In the court Tom Robinson was guilty even though everyone knew that Atticus proved that Mr. Robinson was innocent. This caused Atticus's children Jem and Scout to have a different opinion of Maycomb.
Bob Ewell proved that he didn't like Atticus after the trial because Atticus proved that Mr. Ewell was the one who abused Mayella. This caused Bob Ewell to lose what ever credibility he had left. So Mr. Ewell later saw Atticus and spit on him and threatened to kill him but Atticus just walked away because he didn't want to fight.
In the end, Mr. Ewell goes after Scout and Jem, instead of Atticus. During a party that Jem and Scout went to on Halloween Bob Eweel goes to try and kill the children but Boo Radley came out of the shadows to save Scout and Jem so Boo killed Mr. Ewell to protect the children.
