  • In the fields, farm workers were exposed to pesticides, had low wages, no education, worked in harsh conditions, and lived in poor conditions.
  • Filipinos and Mexican Americans united to improve living/working conditions. They were led by the two great leaders, Cesar Chaves and Philip Vera Cruz.
  • Thousands of farm workers united during this movement, and went on strike.
  • Cesar Chaves organized events such as marches, strikes, and even encouraged many people not to buy grapes.
  • Cesar Chaves went on several days without food (fasted) to prove a powerful point, many more people joined the movement after that.
  • The movement's efforts were successful. In the end farm owners signed and agreed to offer better working/ living conditions.
