Estrella climbs the chain in the barn and sits on the roof "The roof tilted downward and she felt gravity pulling but did not lose her footing. The termite-softened shakes crushed beneath her bare feet like the serpent under the feet of Jesus, and a few pieces tumbled down and over the edges of the barn," (175).
Estrella spots Perfecto's red toolbox "When Estrella first came upon Perfecto's red tool chest like a suitcase near the door, she became very angry," (24). The red toolbox in the story represents how Perfecto is trying to fix his relationship with his family.
