Storyboard Text

  • We must finish soon so I can get back to England and have some tea. There's no good tea in the USSR.
  • Boys boys boys, we gotta figure out what we're gonna do with with Europe.
  • Yes, we need to figure out everything from A to backwards R
  • Both splendid ideas!
  • How about we hold elections for the people to decide what gov. they want
  • Yes, and how about we create the United Nations to solve problems.
  • If I hold free elections, the people might not choose communism, and I need Poland to be a buffer zone between us and Germany. I must rig the elections.
  • Winston Churchill (England), Franklin D. Roosevelt (United States), and Joseph Stalin (USSR) meet at Yalta to discuss the future of Europe.
  •
  • So those free elections all turned out to be communist winners. I don't believe that Stalin told the truth when he agreed to free elections. I can't help but wonder about the future of Germany, with half being controlled by the USSR. I will set up an alliance with other countries to defend against communism.
  • Roosevelt suggests the idea of free elections to be help in Europe to let the people decide what style of government they want. Stalin agrees, and suggests the creation of the United Nations to help solve future issues peacefully. Churchill agrees with both ideas.
  • Half of Berlin belongs to us, Stalin! Let us through!
  • If you don't take down this blockade, we will just fly supplies over your heads!
  • Well in that case I guess I'm not wanted here. I might as well go home.
  • My name is Mao. I am a communist dirt bag. I rule with an iron fist. I'm taking over China now!
  • At this point, Stalin is paranoid that Germany will invade the USSR for a third time that century. He wants Poland to be communist, so it will act as a sort of buffer zone between the USSR and Germany. Stalin fears that citizens may not choose communism, so he decides to rig the elections in communism's favor.
  • Meanwhile in China...
  • When Roosevelt hears of the vast amount of countries electing for communism, Roosevelt gets suspicious of Stalin's trustworthiness. Roosevelt sets up NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) to help defend against communism.
  • Stalin sets up a military blockade to prevent the West from entering into West Berlin (controlled by U.S., England, France). This prevented the citizens of West Berlin from getting needed supplies. The West instead flies in supplies via airlift. In response, Stalin takes down the blockade. Stalin also devises a plan to counter Roosevelt's alliance by creating the Warsaw Pact, an alliance between communist states.
  • While all this stuff in Europe is going down, there is a civil war in China. The communist uprising led by Mao Zedhong overthrew the imperialist government to create the People's Republic of China (communist). The imperialists fled to Taiwan.
